Kingdom of the Wicked

Emilia finds Wrath in the cave. He is mad at her for containing him again. They bicker. She tells Wrath about the invisible attacker that hurt her Nonna. Wrath suggests that the attacker was a type of demon that serves the royal houses of Hell called an “Umbra demon.” He does not think that Greed sent the Umbra demon to attack Emilia’s family. They discuss the Horn of Hades, and Wrath explains that it is the only tool that can summon Pride out of Hell. Emilia suspects that Greed—or another Prince of Hell—might have tried to summon Pride under the Cathedral with the Horn. Wrath agrees to help her look for evidence of a summoning, and Emilia breaks the containment spell. Wrath swears a blood vow that his “current mission is to save souls, not take them” to appease Emilia’s worries about his intentions (175).

Emilia and Wrath go to the same chamber in which Vittoria died. Emilia asks why he tasted Vittoria’s blood on the night she was killed, suddenly very suspicious of Wrath. He explains that he was tasting her blood to determine if she had an affiliation with a Prince of Hell, but Vittoria did not have a blood bond at the time of her death.
