Night Road

A few days after the dance, Jude goes to Zach’s room to see how he’s doing after breaking up with his girlfriend. Zach asks how she knew that she loved his dad, Miles, and Jude says that it was love at first sight and that she cried the first time Miles kissed her. Lexi feels guilty about seeing Zach each night and not telling Mia. One night, as they lie on a blanket at the beach, Zach tells Lexi that he loves her, and Lexi says that they need to tell Mia and his parents about their relationship. As they get up to leave, Zach agrees to tell Mia tomorrow.

During school the next day, Lexi is preoccupied with what will happen when Mia discovers her brother’s relationship with her best friend. The three teenagers meet after school and go to a patch of grass to talk. Zach tells Mia, and the color drains from her face. Mia becomes upset because they’ve liked each other for weeks without telling her and calls them liars. Mia runs and gets on a school bus, and it drives away.

At home, Lexi regrets not telling Mia about Zach when it first started, so she decides to go to Mia’s house and talk to her.
